I know, super unpopular opinion, but while Riot! is a solid album with some true standouts, I also find it to be Paramore’s most flawed work. “There is something, I see in you, it might kill me, but I want it to be true.” ” Do you see what we’ve done? We’ve gone and made such fools of ourselves.” Anyway, Paramore truly outdid themselves on this one. Hate Twilight all you want, but take note that those movies inspired some great music and soundtracks. The guitars are great at capturing the mood and the darkness of the deep waters of tricky relationships. It’s content articulates confusion and fear in any relationship, and Hayley kills the vocals on this track. When I heard this song, I thought wow, this really sums up Edward and Bella’s relationship so well, but truthfully, without that context, “Decode” is an amazing song sonically and lyrically. In fact, it was Twilight that introduced me to Paramore via “Decode.” After the initial introduction to Paramore, I gradually began to love them, so “Decode” is a combination of two things I love: Paramore and Twilight.
